Identity Apertures (2015), a multimedia installation with photographs, handmade books, and artifacts, seeks to extend the conversation about how to approach my self-identity beyond the notions of citizenship, race, and gender enforced by authorities. I can only “see” myself in a mirror or through photographs. These representations of me are essentially shadows, instead of real human beings. However, this work constitutes a complicated archive that forms apertures to approach my self-identity beyond bureaucratic systems.
