Writing is an integral part of my art practices. From refereed journal articles to columns, reviews, interviews, and blog posts, my writings focus on the nexus of art, technology, and society.

Before “The Death of Author”

Between April and October 2021, I conducted an enduring performance work entitled “Before ‘The Death of Author’.” Every two week, I live-streamed my practices, including writing dissertation, reviews, essays, and making artworks. Users can interact with a live author, a kind of “shared anthropology” to disenchant the seemingly mysterious process of artmaking. If the birth of the reader is at the death of the author, the process of making is a resistance for the author against time and death.

With sound recordings in my studio, these live streaming clips were made into a 7-hour video “7 Hours and 23 Minutes of 2147 Madison Road, No. 8 Buena Vista Court, and the Stay Art Festival” for the 3rd Stay Art Festival in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China in 2022. The video starts with the festival day’s activities in the morning and ends at the day’s last activites in the evening. The audience can enter an artist’s working process at any time while participating in various activities at the festival.
